Extracto: After all the great reviews for this lens I expected much more. I compared it to my Hoya close -lenses. The Canon 100mm f2.8 IS was only slightly more sharp. What really surprised me was how dark it was for a f2.8 lens. In my comparison test, the Hoya close-up lens was much brighter.
Extracto: I bought this lens for taking macro photographs of fauna and flora, portraits and some commercial products. After using it for a little over a month I'm not exactly sure I like this lens. Here is why. First the focus is slow on FULL, I found it easier to use a manual focus, not good if photographing bugs. The macro shots I took of a tulip didn't come out with a crisp focus I was hoping for. Pictures of a spring up close did come out nicely though.
Extracto: I only took a dozen of so test shots with this lens. Auto-focus basically sounded like a muffled steel trash can rolling down the driveway. I have already returned it [...]. I'll probably get a 180mm instead.
